The Case for Grandparents Rights

Published by

Looking at today’s flawed laws  it is not hard to make the case for grandparents rights. By not maintaining adequate laws to protect our children, our legal system has miserably failed them. The antiquated laws governing grandparents rights need to be revised to reflect the times we live in. More and more children’s childhoods will be destroyed, leaving them to become part of the juvenile justice system or suffer at the hands of their parents or unfit guardians.

If the laws do not change allowing grandparents legal rights to protect and defend their grandchildren they will just become statistics society will have to contend with. Just another thing our state and federal legal system should have and could have prevented, but refused and failed to do so.

It is in these tough times that it pays to know what your grandparents rights re and how you go about enforcing them, lest you become swept up in the rising tide of grandparents who simply never see their grandkids. Laws vary state to state and are often a bewildering maze of contradiction at first glance.

In the United States every single state has separate statues that give permission to the grandparents to maintain contact with their children. But though all fifty states have regulations on grandparent’s legal rights, they differ considerably on procedures and practices.

We need to actively seek change in grandparents rights laws even as the courts and the states seek to understand exactly what the previous rulings mean.
