Grandparents visitation laws vary, so get informed

Grandparents form deep and loving attachments with the children in their lives. Yet when death, divorce, or estrangement tears families apart, these caretakers may find themselves without any legal right to maintain contact with the children they love. Many will have to make legal claims based on varying state laws. In my book No Greater Loss I discuss the best methods for grandparents to solidify these claims and the best practices for grandparents in their relationship with their grandchildren. What you need to know about grandparent custody rights

When it comes to grandparents custody rights, in many states grandparents have no rights to visit, see or speak with their grandchildren unless the child’s parents permit such. Still the details have to be studied thoroughly because of the difficulties and the  slight differences in legalities from state to state. I go into great detail […]

Do Grandparents have visitation rights?

A frequently asked question about grandparents rights is whether a grandparent who has been alienated from their grandchild by the child’s parents can seek visitation privileges with their grandchild. Whether a grandparent has a right to visit a grandchild is sometimes a complicated issue that varies by state. Whether or not a grandparent can petition the court for visitation rights to their grandchildren depends location and upon the circumstances present in their case. I go into great detail about these issues in my book No Greater Loss which examines these issues in depth. In 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court held […]
