HAPPY TIME!
A couple of years ago I did several posts on Senator John East’s attempt to write Grandparents Rights into a federal law to help unify and clarify what is now a very scattered and lacking patchwork of State laws. This committee process was long and detailed which just pointed out the fact that this is, admittedly, a difficult subject. While it may be difficult it is no less important. I am hard pressed to find anything more important than the welfare of millions of Grandchildren and their best interest.
It would be naive to hope that some politician would champion this issue just because it is the right thing to do. My hope is, instead, that some politician with a close ties to a case of “the withholding of access to the Grandchildren” to play out adult vindictiveness. In my book I quoted the founder and executive director of the national nonprofit Grandparents Rights Organization, Richard S. Victor. “Remember, if death takes a grandparent from a grandchild, that is a tragedy, but if petty vindictiveness and hostilities within a family amputate a grandchild from their grandparents, then that is a shame.”
This is not a matter of pitting grandparents against parents. Every word I have written in these past years points to fully supporting fit parents in the cause of the best interest of the child. I hold tight to my mission of providing each and every grandchild with more Love, not less.
I would encourage each of you reading this to begin a dialogue with your representatives. Ask them were they stand and educate them, enlist them in taking a healthy look at how we can all benefit these Grand Angels of ours.
Thank You for being a Caring Grandparent. Grandpa NEIL
