Grandparents Games to Play with Grandchildren

Here are some ideas from the Grandparents Games.com site:

Laugh Out Loudly

This is a very hilarious game to watch and even more fun to play. A challenging one, the players are asked to sit in a circle facing each other. Then, a player starts the game by saying “Ha!” The next player follows this by saying “Ha! Ha!” while the third continues with “Ha! Ha! Ha!” and so on. A player is eliminated from the game as soon as he/she speaks out the wrong number of “Ha!”

Spoon Race

This is a very popular Grandparents Day game, in which the grandparents themselves are asked to race with a spoonful of peas. The objective of the game is to become the first in reaching the other end of the hall with a spoon full of green peas. The players should walk with utmost care, because the peas should not fall off their spoons until they reach the other end. The grandparent who first reaches the other end is declared as the winner.

Pick the Ping-Pong Balls

This game consists of several teams with two players in each team (again, a grandparent with his/her grandchild). Ping-pong balls of different colors are thrown all around the party hall. The aim of the team is to collect as many ping pong as they can and put them with two little buckets within a set time limit, say 5 minutes. Then, the next team is given the chance. Three to four teams generally play this game. The team which collects the maximum number of ping pong balls is declared the winner.

Here is an interactive set of coloring pages which make great mouse practice activities for toddlers, preschool, and elementary children. They feature grandparents Day themes. If children are unable to read the sentence that goes with the coloring page, you can have them click on each word to hear the sentence. This activity reinforces both computer and reading skills.
