During this Covid mess You may find it harder to engage your Grandchildren. With the uneven opening up of visits, etc. it may not be a clear cut idea to find ways to meaningfully engage your Grands. I don’t just mean the usual, “How is school conversations”. I think it is important to drill down and really engage them when we do have the opportunity to connect with them.
One of the things I have noticed is that more and more Grandparents are opting to get a pet for companionship. Great idea. Now the big question, what kind of pet to invite into our homes?
Seems a simple question. Do you choose a Dag, Cat, Giraffe, Turtle, Parrot? Just kidding! Dogs and Cats are at the head of the list. Now we drill down to things like, Gender, size, breed, physical needs, Rescue vs Hybrid, responsible maintenance (Walking, bathing, Litter box, and on and on.)
I sense an opportunity to challenge your Grandkids to help with this all important search. You will be pleased and surprised how much knowledge these young minds to bring to the table. I also sense a double or triple win here. It gives you a chance to talk about all these considerations which is what I call a teaching moment.
