When my Grandkids say something is really hard I listen to them for a while and eventually I find a way to convey the following.
Staples Office Supply did us a gross injustice when they ran the add for their “EASY BUTTON” advertising campaign. It has been my experience that in life there may be an (easy way out button) but when it comes to doing and being anything significant there is no Easy Button. Almost by definition easy and significant don’t fit in the same sentence.
Most learned teachers will tell you that we are creatures that seek pleasure and avoid pain. Actually Sigmond baby gave us this; The Pleasure Principle is a term originally used by Sigmond Freud to characterize the tendency of people to seek pleasure and avoid pain. Freud argued that people sometimes go to great lengths to avoid even momentary pain, Particularly at times of psychological weakness or vulnerability.

Given this predilection, we have this hill to climb to get to why, I think, that success in most anything is sooooooooo hard to achieve. Most psychologist have re-framed Freud’s concept and labeled his idea as our comfort zone We see this dichotomy play out in sports, business and in real life relationships every day. I am reminded of a quote that is attributed to the great motion picture producer.Samuel Goldwyn “The harder I work the luckier I get”.
Let me be clear, I am in no way saying that you have to like this stretching and reaching pain STUFF. I will say though that it is always helpful to appreciate what will come of your struggle if you persevere. Keeping you eye on the prize is the very fuel necessary to achieve anything meaningful.
