A Grandfather’s Wisdom for a New Generation

How “Letters From Pop-Pop” Is Inspiring Families Everywhere to Reconnect

In a world where text messages have replaced conversations and “likes” often stand in for love, one Delaware author and grandfather is bringing back something timeless: heartfelt advice and connection across generations.

“Letters From Pop-Pop: Advice For Grandkids Everywhere” is the latest release from veteran writer John Riddle, a man who has spent more than four decades encouraging people of all ages to write, dream, and share their stories. His 38th book (and fourth self-published title) is striking a chord with readers who are hungry for genuine wisdom and warmth.

"This is one of the most heartwarming and charming books I’ve come across in ages. I regularly think about quotes from my Pop-Pop, and I wish I had had this book back when I used to sit and listen to his stories and wise tidbits.”

Author
“I like how each letter gives solid advice and then a little challenge for readers to apply. Feels real. Pop-Pop doesn’t lecture. He talks to you. That’s what makes it work.”

Author & Coach
“John Riddle’s book is a helpful and down-to-earth guide for children to develop a healthy and helpful attitude which will bless them throughout their lives.”

“This is one of the most heartwarming and charming books I’ve come across in ages,” says Michael F. Schein, founder of MicroFame Media and author of The Hype Handbook. “I regularly think about quotes from my Pop-Pop, and I wish I had had this book back when I used to sit and listen to his stories and wise tidbits.”

Each of the book’s 25 letters offers thoughtful advice from “Pop-Pop” on topics like kindness, respect, perseverance, financial wisdom, and gratitude. Each one includes a motivational quote and a practical challenge, encouraging readers not just to reflect, but to act.

“I like how each letter gives solid advice and then a little challenge for readers to apply. Feels real,” notes author and coach Eddie Jones. “Pop-Pop doesn’t lecture. He talks to you. That’s what makes it work.”

The letters were inspired by Riddle’s six grandchildren, but their appeal extends far beyond family ties. Teachers, parents, and church groups are discovering the book as a tool for building character and sparking intergenerational conversations.

“Although my 18 grandchildren call me Baba, not Pop-Pop,” says Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of Movieguide, “John Riddle’s book is a helpful and down-to-earth guide for children to develop a healthy and helpful attitude which will bless them throughout their lives.”

Riddle says the inspiration was simple: “In a world full of distractions and fast answers, I wanted to create something that feels real and lasting. This book is my way of passing down the values I hope my grandkids, and every child, will carry with them.”

Letters From Pop-Pop: Advice For Grandkids Everywhere” is more than just a book; it’s a reminder that wisdom, laughter, and love never go out of style.

John Riddle is a freelance writer, author, ghostwriter and donut eater who works out of his home office in Delaware.  He is the author of 34 books with a variety of traditional publishers, and so far has self-published 3 books for writers.  His byline has appeared in major publications all across the United States, and he has written articles for over 200 websites.  In 2002 he launched “I Love To Write Day” as a grassroots campaign to have people of all ages spend time writing every November 15th.
